GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday said the arrested vlogger-teacher, Victor Das, should provide proof, if any, to support his cash-for-jobs allegation in the recently held examinations for direct recruitment in grade III and grade IV state government posts.
Speaking to media persons in Nagaon district, Sarma said, “The teacher has been interrogated several times. Every time during interrogation, he said he heard about the cash-for-job scam… somebody told him. But he could not say who told him about such anomalies in the recruitment process.”
Sarma said students will not come forward to apply for government jobs if such allegations without any proof are brought every time. “We will not be able to hold any recruitment exam if such things keep on going,” he added.
Das was arrested on Friday for allegedly spreading rumours questioning the sanctity of the recruitment process for grade III and IV posts in various departments. He had alleged a cash-for-jobs scam and also the involvement of a few former MLAs in it through a tweet.
Several of his students were questioned by police in connection with the case. However, the police said the statements of those students did not support the allegations of their teacher.
Das is currently in police custody.
